XAT (Xavier Admission Test)

XAT summary:

For more than 45 years Xavier Labor Relations Institute (XLRI) is conducting Xavier Admission Test on All India level to select the most suitable students for admission to their post graduate degree programs in management.

Separately from XLRI, there are around 40 management institutes who give to to the XAT score including the likes of XIM Bhubaneshwar, XISS, LIBA, GIM etc. The XLRI is ranked amongst the top 5 B-Schools in India while XIM is ranked among the top 20.

250 – 300 word essays are expected to be written with topics ranging from those of social significance to propositions to abstract. The essay topic in XAT 2007 was, “Economic growth without environmental damage – mirage or reality”.

The method of scoring:

Right Answer: 1 mark

Incorrect Answer: -1/3 mark (for first 5 wrong answers in each section) & 1/2 marks (for the remaining wrong answers)

Registration for XAT

To register for XAT, applicant has to fill the XAT Form that is available online at www.xlri.edu. Once the candidate logs on to this site, a full set of instructions will appear and following them, the candidate can obtain his/her ID and password.

This ID and password are to be indicated for all the future correspondence with XAT Office, Jamshedpur. For writing the XAT, the candidates should select their suitable cities from the list of city option available on the web site.

JMET (Joint Management Entrance Test)

The Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) is the first step in the process of seeking admission to the 2-YEAR FULL TIME Post-Graduate Degree Programmers in Management accessible by IITs and IISc.

Currently IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee are offering such Programmes in Management. JMET is being conducted for admission to these Programmes.

The IISc and contribute IITs will use the results of JMET 2008 to short list candidates for the subsequent part of the selection process (es). Applicants should note that they have to apply for and send separate application forms to different IITs and IISc. Candidates are counsel to refer to the details provided by each of the Institutes. An applicant can apply to as many programmes as preferred by their subject to completion of eligibility requirements.

Eligibility

Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criterion listed against the Management School/Department of each Institute can appear for the JMET examination.

IIT Bombay: A First Class degree (Min. 60% aggregate / Min. CGPI of 6.5/10) in either Engineering (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) or Master’s degree in Science.

IIT Delhi: Minimum 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) or 6.75/10 CGPA in Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy/ Agriculture

IISc Bangalore: B.E./B.Tech. Or equivalent in any branch of Engineering with at least a Second Class.

Engg.(min 4 years after 10+2) or Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Applications, Electronic Science, Environmental Science, Operations Research, Computational/Information Science, Agriculture, Commerce, Economics. There is a relaxation of 5% in marks or equivalent in CGPA for SC/ST candidates.

IIT Kharagpur: First Class Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Engineering/Technology or a first class Master’s degree in Science, Economics or Commerce (with Mathematics or Statistics at Bachelor’s level).

IIT Madras: First Class or equivalent in B.E./B.Tech./Master’s degree in any discipline from a recognized Institution or University.

IIT Kanpur: B.E./B.Tech. in any branch of Engineering with 60% marks in aggregate or CGPA of 6.0/10.0 in aggregate based on average over whole programme. Candidates with Architecture degree can also apply provided they have taken Mathematics at 10+2 level.

Note: Candidates appearing for final examinations for the qualifying degree can also apply. However, they have to complete all requirements for the qualifying degree and produce a provisional certificate before a date specified by the admitting Institute.

There is negative marking for every incorrect answers. For a wrong answer to a question, 25% of the marks allotted to that question will be deducted. Moreover, for a candidate to be qualified in JMET 2008, he/she should, not only, secure certain minimum marks in the test paper, but also, should necessarily obtain certain minimum marks in each of the four sections stated above.

How To Apply:

There are two different processes by which a candidate can apply for JMET 2008, namely, “online” and “offline”.

Online submission of application can be made by accessing the website http://gate.iitkgp.ac.in/jmet

Offline process involves procuring the Information Brochure and Application Form by one of the following modes: By Post, In person from GATE offices, In person from bank counters.

More information about the eligibility, programmes, test cities, test structure, etc. is available at the websites of IISc and all IITs. Filled in Application Form along with the pay-in-slip from bank / GATE office must be sent ONLY to The Chairman GATE, IIT Kharagpur,721 302.
