SYMBIOSIS ENTRANCE TEST (SET): For Undergraduate Programmes

Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is the single written entrance test required for admission to the Symbiosis Undergraduate Institutes of SIEC Deemed University. It is a mandatory written test for admission to undergraduate programmers of the Symbiosis institutes. However, it is only the first step. Each Symbiosis institute has its independent selection process.

SET exams Important Dates:

Online registration starts - Monday, February 19, 2007

Online registration closes - Tuesday April 17, 2007

Payment closes on – Saturday April 21, 2007

Admit card – Sunday April 29, 2007 to May 5, 2007

Stages Involved in SET:

A student aspiring to pursue an undergraduate programme at Symbiosis needs to follow the 3 stages mentioned below:

The SET involves:

1. Online Registration

2. Payment of Test Fee

3. Printing Admit Card

4. Appearing for the Test

1: Take the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) Register online. The last date for Registration is April 17, 2007.

2: Pay fees for the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET)

The Test fee is Rs. 500/- and is non-refundable. You may pay either through Cash or crossed Demand Draft or through Credit Card. Follow the payment instructions given on the Symbiosis Entrance Test website. (www.set-test.org) the last date for payment is Saturday, April 21, 2007.

3: Print Admit Card

Admit Card is mandatory & is required for admitting a candidate at the Test Centre. Print your Admit Card from the SET website on any date between 29 April 2007 & 4 May 2007 Midnight. Paste your own latest passport-size photograph on the Admit Card.

4: Appear for the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET)

Appear for the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) on 5th May 2007 (2.00pm to 4.30pm) On the Test day, bring the Admit Card with the photograph pasted on it to the Test Centre. Make sure you bring your photo-identity to the Test Centre. An acceptable photo identity is any one of the following:

- Passport

- Driving license

- College / Institute identity card

- Hall Ticket of XII Standard Examination

At the time of the Test, a Symbiosis Authorized Person will verify and authenticate your Admit Card against the photo-identity presented by you. Please note that any candidate not producing a satisfactory photo-identity will not be allowed to take the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET). The decision of the Symbiosis Authorized Person is final in this regard. Preserve this Authenticated Admit Card for further selection processes at individual Symbiosis institutes wherever you apply.

5: Results of the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET)

SET results will be sent directly to all the Symbiosis institutes of SIEC, Deemed University listed here. The individual Symbiosis Institutes, wherever you apply, will announce the names of the shortlisted candidates as per its policy given in the prospectus of the respective instituteThe scores published by the Symbiosis Test Secretariat shall be final and shall not be subject to any appeal or revaluation.

The SET Score card will be available on the website for the period of one month after the date of declaration of result (up to June 21, 2007) English: This section aims to check reading and writing abilities in English. It deals with comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, syntax, correct use of language etc.

Quantitative: This section has questions to check basic abilities in mathematics and has largely a mix of questions in basic arithmetic (e.g. time-work, profit-loss, ratio, percentage etc.), basic algebra, basic geometry etc. This will be at the level of class 10.

General Awareness: This section has 60 questions. They will cover broadly the following areas.

General Knowledge & Current Affairs: 10 questions.

Business Awareness: 10 questions.

IT Awareness: 10 questions.

Health Awareness: 10 questions.

Legal Awareness: 20 questions.

For these topics one needs to be abreast of what is happening in the respective areas. It will be useful to read such normally available publications as newspapers, business magazines, IT magazines etc. that provide basic knowledge.

Health Awareness deals with general knowledge about diseases, environment, fitness, National Health Programmes etc.

In case of legal awareness, those wishing to make a career in Law may like to know more in depth but otherwise awareness about constitution and legal issues in public life will provide good background.

Analytical & Logical Reasoning: This section checks logical and analytical abilities.

The questions are comparable to any national-level competitive tests for undergraduate programmes.

The institutes using SET score are all affiliated to SIEC Deemed University.

The Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) has a NON-REFUNDABLE FEE of Rs 500.

Payment can be made by any one of the three options Cash, Demand Draft or Credit Card. For making payment please follow the instructions on the website. In case of payment by Cash or DD, a Challan need to be printed from the website from the payment option.
