MAT, commonly known as the Management Aptitude Test, is a national entrance test conducted by the All India Management Association. Conducted four times a year, mainly in September, December, February and May, MAT scorecards are used to screen candidates for recruitment in MBA programs for hundreds of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved institutions and university departments.

Eligibility criteria
• Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university
• Candidates in their final year can also apply
• There is no age limit to apply for MAT
• Job experience is not a requisite to apply

There are 25 MAT test centers all over India. The MAT test format consists of an objective test paper with 200 questions and multiple choice answers. Although the test score is valid for a year (from the time of taking the test), students can take admission into only those institutes which have participated in a given session.

For example, a student sitting for MAT in the month of December 2007 can take admission in only those AICTE approved institutes that have been listed for that particular session. His scores will be valid till December 2008 but he can’t take admission in an institute which has registered for the February session. Most of the premier institutes and universities generally register for the September and February session. Therefore, candidates should do a check on the participating institutes and apply accordingly.

More on MAT
The test paper is divided into five sections which include:
• Language Comprehension
• Mathematical Skills
• Data Analysis and Sufficiency
• Intelligence and critical reasoning
• Indian and global environment

Candidates are expected to complete the 200 questions in the exam in a time frame of two hours.
