Symbiosis National Aptitude Test, or SNAP, as it is popularly referred to, is a compulsory, common written entrance test for taking admission into any postgraduate course in any institute of Symbiosis International University. In order to apply, students will first have to register themselves via the SNAP test form. This form is also available online. A non-refundable payment has to be made at the time of registration, which amounts to Rs. 800. Besides this, aspiring students are also required to apply to different Symbiosis Institutes separately.

The test is generally conducted in December. However, the registration for the same closes by November. This 120-minute duration test is objective in nature and covers 150 questions. Each question carries 4 responses from which the candidate has to opt for the correct response. SNAP test is divided into four sections; three sections carry questions of one mark each and questions of the fourth section carry two marks each. These four sections include:

• Quantitative, Data interpretation and Data sufficiency
• General English
• Logical and Analytical Reasoning
• General Knowledge

Snapping up SNAP
The overall level of difficulty of the SNAP test is considered to be lower than that of the CAT test. The General English section tests candidate’s knowledge on reading comprehension, verbal reasoning and verbal ability. This section in comparison to the English section of the CAT test is a bit tougher. The General Knowledge section incorporates questions on general awareness, current affairs and business scenario.
 

Students need to be very careful while attempting the test, for each wrong answer results in a negative marking of 25% of the overall question score.
 

The final call
SNAP test results are declared by January. Candidates who have scored above the requisite cut-offs are then called for the final two rounds (Group Discussion and Personal Interview) before they are finally admitted in their chosen stream in the Symbiosis Institute.

Each institute follows its own independent criteria for arriving at cut-offs and waiting lists, depending on the stream applied to by the candidate. Moreover, each institute carries out its own further selection process according to the schedule.
