MBA Program

The College of Business offers several different MBA degrees and formats. The traditional MBA is delivered in class, and students are able to develop concentrations of the MBA in Accounting, Information Systems, and New Venture Management. The online MBA is delivered over the Internet and students do not attend traditional class meetings.  The Executive MBA is a blend of distance delivery and in class, with classes meeting on Saturdays.

On advisory approval, select graduate courses in business may be applied toward the graduate programs in educational leadership offered by the College of Education. The College of Business also provides courses applicable to a minor in business education in graduate programs in secondary education offered by the College of Education.

Traditional MBA program

Students may start this program in September, January or June. Classes meet on campus.  The typical course meets one evening per week for a 16-week semester.  All concentrations are available except the Executive Option. See the Expenses section at the beginning of the bulletin for tuition and fee information for this program.

Admission Requirements

Successful graduate study in business requires a combination of verbal and conceptual skills, quantitative and analytical skills, conscientiousness and maturity. Students should have or commit to develop an acceptable level of strength in each of these areas in order to be successful in graduate study. Admission standards are established to accept students who possess these skills and traits and thus have a fair probability of success and to encourage those without appropriate academic preparation to pursue developmental work before undertaking graduate study in business. Students may be admitted for graduate study Unconditionally or Conditionally. Conditionally admitted students may have their status changed to Unconditional admission upon the completion of the conditions set forth in their admission summary sheet.

Unconditional Admission

For Unconditional Admission, a student must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and meet one of the following criteria:

  1.  Have a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for all undergraduate work taken as part of the undergraduate degree. No admission test scores are required.
  2. Present a GMAT test score of 550 or higher and a bachelors degree in any field. No grade point restrictions are used with this test score.
  3. A total of at least 950 points based on the formula: 200 times the overall undergraduate grade point average plus GMAT score, or at least 1,000 points based on the formula: 200 times the grade point average on the last 64 semester hours taken plus the GMAT score.
  4. A grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale and submission of one of the following: (a) Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score of 800 or higher; or (b) Miller Analogy Test (MAT) score of 35 or higher.
  5. A grade point average of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale and submission of one of the following:     (a) GRE score of 900 or higher; or (b) Miller Analogy Test (MAT) score of 40 or higher.

Note: Official admission test score should typically be no more than five years old. For students holding a masters degree in another field, admission test scores are typically waived.

Students who fail to meet one of the admission criteria above may be admitted Conditionally. Students admitted Conditionally will have to remove the conditions spelled out in the admissions summary sheet by the time they complete their fourth graduate course, at which time their status will be changed to Unconditional Admission.

Conditional Admission

For students to be considered for conditional admission, they must meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Present an overall undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale with no admission test score.
  2. Present an overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale and submit one of the following test scores: GMAT of 350 or higher; GRE of 800 or higher; MAT of 35 or higher.

Students whose status is ‘Conditional Admission’ must earn ‘Unconditional Admission’ status by the time they have completed their fourth graduate course after being granted ‘Conditional Admission’. The student must earn a B average or higher in the first four courses, with no more than one C grade as well as satisfy any other conditions that may have been spelled out in the admissions summary sheet.
