HKU The University of Hong Kong Course Information
Bachelor A Programem for Future Business Leaders The recognition of Hong Kong as one of the leading business and financial centres in the world, and the gradual shift of economic ascendancy from west to east, have created the need to reinvent the business executive in Asia. Home to nearly three quarters of the world's population, Asia is an all-encompassing conglomerate characterized by cultural, political and economic diversity that ranges from the emerging to the highly developed. Hence the business skills needed to operate effectively in Asia are, at times, dissimilar from those used in the West.
Cultural sensitivity and networking ability are perhaps just as important as the more traditional management skills taught regularly in business schools the world over. Besides combining a high-calibre training programme with vital support networks from the business community, we make certain that students understand Asia’s role within a global context. By focusing on skills and concepts that are pertinent to the region, the undergraduate programmes offered by FBE provide students with the leadership qualities that are crucial in the rapidly changing business landscape of Asia.
Programmes offered: Bachelor of Business Administration [BBA] The BBA programme is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in finance, human resource management or marketing. It combines strong, functional training with intensive exposures to languages and computer applications, plus other sciences and social sciences. In the second year of the programme, students can choose to major in finance, human resource management, or marketing. Students may also select a second major. The Finance major prepares students for careers as bankers, fund managers, investment consultants, and financial controllers. The courses required in the major combine the most up-to-date ideas pertaining to these areas with applications of the concepts within the Asia-Pacific context. The Human Resource Management major trains students to manage human resources in both profit and non-profit organisations. The courses are designed to prepare students to become members of the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management. The Marketing major is designed to prepare students for careers in advertising, brand management, and marketing management in multinationals and local companies. The major is unique within Hong Kong in that it offers professional internship opportunities for students; and all graduating students participate in special training programmes in communication, professional image development and social etiquette, which give them a head start in becoming future leading marketers.
