Who should apply?

A Four-Year Special Degree with a First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours in Management Studies, Commerce, Economics, Public Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Law or Engineering from this University or any other recognized University and a minimum of one (01) year post qualifying work experience in managerial capacity

A Four-Year Special Degree in Management Studies, Commerce, Economics, Public Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Law or Engineering from this University or any other recognized University and a minimum of two (02) year post qualifying work experience in managerial capacity

A Degree and at least a Postgraduate Diploma from this University or any other recognized University in Management Studies, Commerce, Economics, or Public Administration and a minimum of one (01) year post qualifying work experience in managerial capacity

A Degree in any discipline from this University or any other recognized University and a minimum of three (03) year post qualifying work experience in managerial capacity
OR

A membership of any relevant Professional Institution acceptable to the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Management & Finance and the Senate of the University of Colombo and a minimum required number of years of post qualifying work experience in managerial capacity*

Selection Procedure

The MBA Programme of the University of Colombo is highly competitive, as the Faculty is highly conscious about the quality of the intake rather than its size. Academic and/or professional qualification alone would not help to secure a placement in the programmes as the Faculty also gives a reasonably higher weightage to the work experience of the applicants at managerial capacity, demonstrated management competencies and prospects for further development in the applicant's career.

As the programme aims at developing professional managers, the personal characteristics including commitment for continuous learning also are considered in the selection. Finally, as the medium of instruction is English, all applicants are required to have adequate proficiency in English. The selection procedure includes three steps. Firstly, suitability of the applicants to the programme is evaluated using the information provided in the application.

All the applications that do not satisfy the minimum qualifications including academic and/or professional qualifications and post-qualifying experience at managerial capacity shall be rejected. Secondly, the remaining applicants will be called for a written examination in which analytical skills, conceptual skills, knowledge of the business environment and proficiency in English will be tested. Finally, the applicants who are successful at the written examination shall be called for the interview in which the applicants are assessed in terms of their demonstrated management competencies, career prospects and personal characteristics

Course Fees

Fees for the entire MBA programme is Rs. 301,000/= for local applicants and $ 6,000 for foreign applicants. This includes tuition fee, registration fee, fee for course materials, examination fee, library fee and fees for the workshops etc. In addition students should also pay library fee, refundable library deposit of Rs. 5,000/=. Students are expected to pay all the fees for semester - 1 and II before they enrol in the programme. For the remaining two Semesters, it is expected to cost little higher (around 5% of the course fee) and students may pay their fee for the Semester III and Semester IV in two instalments.
