Entry Requirements
To be eligible for admission to MBA, an applicant must satisfy the following minimum entrance requirements:
- A recognised degree with 2nd class honours or above, or equivalent; plus
- Normally 3 years of work experience; and
- An acceptable GMAT score or equivalent subject to approval of MBA Programme Director
and
all shortlisted applicants are required to attend an interview.
Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should also fulfill the following minimum English proficiency requirement: a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test); or
an overall band score of 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
band 6 in the Chinese mainland's College English Test; or other equivalent qualifications.
Participants who satisfy the above minimum entrance requirements and possess a recognised master's degree from relevant business discipline may apply for credit transfer for equivalent courses, up to 50% of the credit load of the MBA programme. In this regard, participants may be able to complete the programme requirements within 1 year. Courses completed for fulfilling professional qualifications which are equivalent to a bachelor's degree will not be considered for credit transfer.
OVERVIEW
Our Mission
The primary aim of the programme is to provide aspiring managers, from both private and public sectors, a professional education, in which their managerial competence and skills can be elevated, to better enable them to achieve their career goals. The MBA programme goes to the heart of modern management practices. It offers an experience-based learning approach, which looks behind the technical and analytical skills to the successful strategies used by managers in arriving at and implementing decisions for the rapid transformations in today's marketplace and organisations.
Our Objectives
- a firm foundation in the disciplines underlying successful management practice;
- conceptual, analytical and heuristic skills that enhance their problem-solving abilities;
- skills in communicating and interacting with others, on both an individual and group basis;
- an awareness of behavioural and organisational concerns and their effects on business operations;
- an understanding of the functional areas of business and the importance of their integration;
- a sensitivity to the legal, social, political, environmental and technological issues which impact on business;
- an ability to analyze problems strategically and to make decisions within the global dimensions of business operations characteristic of Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific region.
Programme Duration
Full-time: normally 1 year with 2 Semesters and a Summer term
Part-time: normally 2 years with 4 Semesters and 2 Summer terms
Mode of Attendance
Intensive Mode of Attendance (for MBA courses)
- Weekly contact of normally one evening (usually Thursday) plus one Saturday afternoon
OR of two weekday evenings - Study one course at a time
- Normally 4-week or 6-week for each course
Normal Mode of Attendance (for other electives)
- One weekday evening or one Saturday afternoon each week for a 13-week semester All classes will be held on-campus at City University of Hong Kong in Kowloon Tong, Kowloon
Medium of Instruction
All MBA courses will be taught in English, with the exception of the Residential Trip (R-Trip) taken place in China which will be conducted in Putonghua. Non-local participants may hire interpreters in China at their own cost, when necessary.

Application
Applications will be invited in each semester. Applications received in one semester will be considered for admission in the following semester (normally in September). Please refer to "What's new" for updated information.
The application fee for a paper form is HK$200 per programme choice. To encourage electronic submission of applications, a lower fee of HK$100 is charged per an online application. All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Award of The Programme
The MBA programme will lead to the final award of Master of Business Administration (MBA) conferred by City University of Hong Kong. To be granted an award of the University, participants must obtain passing grades in all courses of the programme with a Cumulative GPA of 2.00 or above and must meet specific requirements of the named award for which they are registered, general University requirements, and Faculty requirements, if any.
Participants who have more than three courses with Grade C or below; or more than two courses with Grade D or below for the MBA programme may not be granted an MBA award unless they retake those courses to improve the grades in accordance with the University academic regulations.
PROGRAMME FEE
The programme follows a credit unit system. A minimum of 40 credit units is required for graduation. Tuition fee for academic year 2008/09 will be HK$3,010 per credit unit plus HK$12,800 for the cost of the Residential Trip. All fees are subject to yearly review.
Participants who choose the elective course "Industry On-site Workshop" are required to pay additional costs (eg. meals, transportation and accommodation, if necessary)

Financial Assistance For Local Participants
Non-means Tested Loan
All participants are eligible to apply for the Government Non-means Tested Loan. The maximum loan amount will be capped at the tuition fee level. Application Forms and Guidance Notes are available from District Offices.
Continuing Education Fund (CEF)
The MBA programme is eligible for CEF reimbursement. Eligible applicants will be reimbursed 80% of their fees, subject to a maximum sum of HK$10,000, on successful completion of a reimbursable course or module(s) forming part of the course. The fees for more than one reimbursable course may be reimbursed, subject to the maximum ceiling of HK$10,000 per applicant not being exceeded.
